Boards of Canada – Tomorrow’s Harvest

After a week of clues in the shape of records, radio and TV broadcasts, soundcloud clips and outside projections, all six numbers have been found. A page asking for a password (the 36 digits in correct order) appeared today and gave us this.

Then a link to this – the pre-order for the new Boards of Canada album, ‘Tomorrow’s Harvest’, out June 10th – at last! Can’t wait :)

  1. yes, Campfire is a more consistent and summery album for sure (why is it that BOC always make you think of summer?) I know what you mean about Ghost Box and the rest but, I think they’d all acknowledge that BOC are the grandfathers of that movement.

  2. Campfire Headphase turns out to be a stellar make-out album though in my humble experience. Should all acts produce a ‘formulaic’ record as listenable as that one still is 8 years on. Campfire hits a consistent hazy summery mood that their other albums dip too dark to reach and that’s quite welcome on occasion.

Very excited for the new album all the same for all the reasons you mention. I guess I’m a bit worried that the Ghost Box label et al have somewhat stolen BOC’s thunder in the intervening years but if the short clips we’ve heard are anything to go by I can put those fears to rest.

  3. I agree that Campfire… was a definite diluting of the formula, a lot of light rather than darker songs which I enjoy best from BOC but Geogaddi is my absolute favourite album. There’s so much in there and it definitely plays up to the number games, hidden references and such that was missing in Campfire. With the promo roll out of this one there seems to be a return to this so I’m hoping for something decent, I’ll listen to anything they do frankly. The cover art doesn’t seem like a great departure though but it’s not a million miles from what I expected, it also hints at a kind of dystopian future to my mind which is perfectly suited to BOC’s music.

  4. But will it be any good? For me their peak was MHTRTC and IABPITC, Geogaddi never quite hit the spot despite much trying and Campfire Headphase just seemed a diluting restatement of ideas made worse by BoC’s deliberate demystification via interview in The Wire accompanied by dull talk about how they achieved their cover ageing effects via Photoshop. I’ll definitely give them a chance though visually it doesn’t seem like they’re bringing anything new to the table.
